Gateway of India boasts the position of being the very first Indian restaurant to bring the aromatic, fragrant taste, and vibrant culture of India to Cayman, back in 2000.  They originally opened as a charming, atmospheric dine-in restaurant, situated in Canal Point Drive opposite the Strand, serving a delicious, authentic menu that was a welcome addition to the ever-growing selection of international restaurants opening in Cayman at that time.

As an avid lover of Indian cuisine, I was a regular customer and have many great memories of dining there and enjoying their incredible selection of delicious, authentic Indian dishes, served by a team of accommodating and friendly staff.

Today, Gateway of India is a delivery-only Indian food service which, thankfully after closing their doors as a dine-in restaurant, was taken over by chef Wayne O’Connor, owner of Food for Thought catering company. Wayne wisely made the popular restaurant menu available with the added convenience of it being delivered right to your door!  Despite being delivery only, the extensive menu does not disappoint, with a wide selection of traditional favourites to choose from including a variety of vegetarian and vegan dishes.

Head chef Joe Lambert, who was born and raised in India, heads the kitchen team bringing 25 years of experience in the preparation of Indian cuisine, ensuring each dish is authentically prepared.

Wanting to try something different, I ordered a bowl of their Mulligatawny soup* (which originates from Southern India), a delicious combination of roasted coconut, vegetable and lentils which was absolutely delicious, full of flavour, surprisingly filling and my recommendation to add to your next order!

(*Note: there are many variations/adaptations of this soup so ensure you are aware of ingredients if ordering elsewhere!)

I also tried one of my go-to favourites, Vegetable Samosa (served with cilantro and mint chutney) which was still crispy on arrival and bursting with flavour.

Gateway of India is available for delivery orders through Bento, Tuesday through Sunday from 4:30pm-9:30pm, closed on Mondays.  Catering services are available.
